The hard work pays off – 4 ISO certifications

Marcura is super committed to data quality and security.  But what does that really mean?

Here are 4 concrete ways we walk the talk.

  1. Ingrained in the culture

From Day 1 some 20 years ago, Marcura’s founders, Christian and Jens, committed the company to focus on compliance, independence, transparency, efficiency and data security.

This focus continues today.

So our systems, products and processes incorporate security and quality, by design, from their inception.

2. Expertise

At our Group Legal & Compliance Department, we have dedicated teams and specialists in:

  • Data & IT security
  • Data backup (redundancy and disaster recovery)
  • Business continuity
  • Data stewardship and governance
  • Regulatory monitoring and research
  • Audits
  1. Internal audits

We have a dedicated team doing internal audits, and in 2021 so far they have grilled and audited 33 teams around Marcura.

Every year, they audit every team in Marcura and the internal audit covers all 4 standards (see below) and also GDPR.

  1. External audit and validation

Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) is our ISO auditor and in 2021 they audited 39 different teams, spending an average of 17 days per year auditing Marcura.

Apart from having sound and secure processes, the result of all those audits and hard work is our ISO certifications.

We have achieved 4 different ISO certifications to date, all certified by Lloyd’s Register:

  • ISO 9001 – Quality Management System (QMS), certified since 2004
  • ISO/IEC 27001 – Information Security Management System (ISMS), certified since 2018
  • ISO 14001 – Environment Management System (EMS), certified in 2021
  • ISO 45001 – Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS), certified in 2021

In addition to that, the Group is also committed to privacy in its compliance with GDPR and is audited by Deloitte for SOC 1 and is issued with a satisfactory ISAE3402 Type II Report annually.

We spoke with Jerry Anthony who is an audit and certification Team Lead in Marcura and asked him a few questions.

Q: Tell us about Marcura’s ISO audit processes.

“I’m so happy that we’ve secured all four of the ISO certifications this year. It’s a never-ending process involving planning and carrying out 33 internal audits, tracking and recording results, chasing actions, reporting to the Board on our progress, and then engaging with the Lloyd’s Register guys. This year, five of them came at one time and they externally audit us twice a year!

“Then, when that’s all over for the year, we start again on the next year’s process! It keeps us busy.”

Q: How important is this to Marcura?

“Since its initial Quality Management System certification back in 2004 and followed by other ISO certifications over the years, the Group has demonstrated continuous commitment to upholding quality, information security, environmental and occupational health and safety.”

Q: What difference does it make for our customers if we are ISO-certified?

“It is a critical component for both our current and prospective customers. It gives them confidence – an extra proof point that we provide high-quality services and that we run our company in a 100% professional way.

“For many of our new customers, it’s a part of why they chose Marcura products in the first place.  We’re able to meet the prerequisites of larger tenders and contracts, with evidence that security and quality standards are consistently being met and improved upon.

“We are very pleased that our efforts over the last year have paid off and we will continue to up our game in the coming years for the benefit of our customers and the industry at large.”
